Get to know Internist Dr. Ranjana Thakur, who serves patients in Somerville, New Jersey.

Dr. Thakur is a caring and compassionate board-certified internist who has more than three decades of experience in preventive medicine and women’s health. She is affiliated with the Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Somerset in Somerville, New Jersey.

Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Somerset, an RWJBarnabas Health facility, is a nationally accredited, 361-bed regional medical center providing a variety of comprehensive emergency, medical/surgical, behavioral health, and rehabilitative services to Central New Jersey residents. As a designated teaching hospital of Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, the hospital maintains a family medicine residency program with 21 residents.

A graduate of Patna Medical College in India, Dr. Thakur relocated to the United States to complete her residency at UConn Health. Before long, she became board-certified in internal medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine, which is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.

Internal medicine or general medicine is the medical specialty dealing with the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of adult diseases. Physicians specializing in internal medicine are called internists. They manage and prevent common and complex diseases by providing comprehensive care and promoting overall well-being. 

Considering herself to be a hard-working physician, Dr. Thakur goes the extra mile to take care of her patients. She listens to their concerns and allows them to participate in their own care. 

Outside of the office, she enjoys playing tennis. Her favorite place to vacation is in Europe.
