Get to know Obstetrician-Gynecologist Dr. Chastity Takoma Edwards, who serves patients in York, Maine.

Dr. Edwards is a board-certified obstetrician-gynecologist who joined York Hospital in January of 2019.

Her career in medicine began in 2002 when she earned her medical degree from the Boonshoft School of Medicine - Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio. She subsequently completed her residency in obstetrics and gynecology at the same educational venue and became a counselor at the Center for Intervention, Treatment, and Addictions Research, a part of the Boonshoft School of Medicine - Wright State University.

With a solid background, Dr. Edwards earned fellowship status with the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology (FACOG). She also became board-certified in obstetrics and gynecology by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology, which is a non-profit organization that provides board certification for practicing obstetricians and gynecologists in the United States and Canada. 

In order to remain at the forefront of her challenging specialty, she maintains active professional memberships with the American Medical Association and the American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists.

Obstetrics and Gynecology is the medical specialty that encompasses the two subspecialties of obstetrics, covering pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period, and gynecology, covering the health of the female reproductive system – vagina, uterus, ovaries, and breasts. An obstetrician-gynecologist, or OB-GYN, is a healthcare professional who specializes in female reproductive health. 

On a more personal note, Dr. Edwards is fluent in English, French, and German. In her spare time, she enjoys traveling.
