Get to know Pathologist Dr. Savitri Krishnamurthy, who serves patients in Houston, Texas.
Dr. Krishnamurthy is an expert breast surgical pathologist and cytopathologist with extensive experience in the pathological evaluation of breast tissue including conventional modalities as well as ancillary techniques including immunohistochemistry and molecular techniques. She is actively engaged in the clinical management of patients with breast diseases at MD Anderson Cancer Center, and is the pathology core leader of the Morgan Welch Inflammatory Breast Cancer Research program.
In addition, she has collaborated with researchers successfully and provided pathology expertise on several projects. She helps the team of investigators with all the pathology related aspects of the investigation. As co-investigator, she has the expertise and experience to contribute towards the successful completion of the project.
Back in the early days of her academic career, Dr. Krishnamurthy earned her medical degree from the Calcutta Medical College in India in 1986, and completed her residency in pathology at the Chandigarh Institute of Medical Education and Research in 1992.
Upon relocating to the United States, she completed a research fellowship and her residency in anatomic and clinical pathology at New England Medical Center in 1994 and 1997, respectively. Finally, she completed her fellowship in oncologic pathology at the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in 1998, and her fellowship in cytopathology at the MD Anderson Cancer Center in 1999.
Passionate about her profession, the doctor is board-certified in anatomic and clinical pathology and cytopathology by the American Board of Pathology (ABPath). The mission of the ABPath is to promote the health of the public and advance the practice and science of pathology by establishing voluntary certification standards and assessing the qualifications of those seeking to practice the specialty of pathology.
