What are the risks and benefits of minimally invasive colorectal surgery?
There are significant benefits to a minimally invasive colon surgery. The first is faster recovery and less pain. You also have a decreased risk of wound complications and hernias. How long is recovery after appendix surgery?
Recovery after appendix, surgery can vary dependent upon the approach. If this is done through a camera, call Piper rosy, most people feel normal within a couple of days. It is strongly encouraged to avoid any strenuous activity for several weeks to allow full healing. If this is done by an open approach, the recovery is longer. READ MORE
Can surgery fix a groin hernia?
Surgery is the only treatment that will repair an inguinal hernia. Depending on your symptoms and the size of the hernia, you can do watchful waiting however, this is usually not recommend. READ MORE
Can colon polyps be removed?
Most colon polyps can be removed endoscopically during a colonoscopy. Some polyps are too large to remove endoscopically and may require surgery. A very small number of people have a genetic disease that results in thousands of polyps that would require surgery even when the polyps are small. READ MORE

Returning to exercise after inguinal hernia surgery is dependent upon the surgeon who does the surgery. Typically for my patients I recommend return to normal life quickly, but avoids strenuous activity for several weeks to allow the tissues to heal. READ MORE
Can an inguinal hernia come back after surgery?
There is a small chance that inguinal hernias can return after surgery. The experience of the surgeon, the type of surgery performed and whether or not mesh was used all contribute to this rate. Most colon polyps are benign. If they can be removed endoscopically that is a cure for that polyp. Some polyps, however, are pre-cancerous and or cancerous, and require potentially more treatment. There are many reasons people can have blood from the rectum. Some of these are very straightforward and simple and include some thing called a Fisher. This is a crack in the skin at the level of the anus. It can include hemorrhoids which are dilated veins around the anal canal. The amount of time you spend in the hospital after colon surgery can vary drastically. Typically for myself when I am able to do these via a camera called laparoscopy, most people are in the hospital for two days or so. If this is done by a large incision, called an open procedure, you may be in the hospital up to a week. What is the treatment for stomach ulcers?
The treatment of stomach ulcers can vary significantly. Usually it includes taking an acid reducing medication once or twice a day. This can be combined with the medicine that helps re-create the mucus barrier of the stomach. If you test positive for a certain bacteria, you will also need to be treated for that. Some people have ulcer disease that is related to a hormone that can be over excreted and if you’ve had multiple ulcers in the past, I recommend getting it worked up for that. READ MORE

Dr. Boardman is a committed general surgeon with a vast array of expertise in minimally invasive surgical procedures. After serving four years in the United States Army and receiving multiple military honors, he began his private surgical practice in Clermont, Florida in 2005. He joined Mid-Florida Surgical Associates in 2010 and has been a valuable member of the team ever since.
His special interests lie in the field of robotics and minimally invasive surgeries, which he uses to treat a wide range of conditions such as hernias, colorectal diseases, bowel, biliary, gastric reflux, endocrine disorders, and cancer of the breast, colon, skin, and thyroid. He is also experienced in treating venous disease for varicose and spider veins.
Educated in the United States, Dr. Boardman graduated with his medical degree from the New York Medical College in 1996, before completing his residency in general surgery at the Westchester County Medical Center.
Recognized as a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS), the doctor is board-certified in general surgery by the American Board of Surgery (ABS). The ABS is an independent, non-profit organization located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, founded for the purpose of certifying surgeons who have met a defined standard of education, training, and knowledge.
Widely respected in the community, he serves as the Chief of Surgery at South Lake Hospital and is a member of the South Lake Hospital Foundation Board. He is also the President of the Lake-Sumter Medical Society.
