Who in your life has been affected by autism and how?

My Daughter has 2 autistic boys ages 10 and 7 . the family is very affected by the boys the mom is the runner for all appt. meetings and anything else for the boys. She cannot work at this time because of all the  appts.  Big brother is great with the boys but mom wants him to be able to do things that dont  revolve around  his brothers.  Dad works hard  to keep the bills paid and wishes he could be at more meetings concerning his sonsf

Where is your loved one on the spectrum?

the 7 year old is non verbal and  we just found out he has ADHD as well , his ability to talk is very hard on him  he knows what he wants and just cant always make someone understand. He is learning to  use his picture book for some things but we hope in time he will talk.  

the older boy is trying hard at school learning at about a 1st grade level  Socially hes doing great and trying to play with others. He is a helpful  little boy,  very loving and tries  to be included in a  conversation. He is understanding  Math and trying to write.  and read.                .   

What do you wish people would understand about autism?

We have so many people out there that want to help your child. All of them have there own idea about how. its very confusing to the parents .  if you have speech , and  OT, and  a social worker.and classes for  your child's social  development.  You have to be on the same page. My daughter was so confused when  every one was going in a different direction. after she begged for a meeting with her help together .she was able to get them all going  in the best direction for her sons and the boys did much better for all of them
