What is it like being an autism mom? The ups, the downs, and the emotional struggle.

What's it like to be an Autism Mom? The worrying never stops...even in your quiet moments...it sneaks up on you and takes hold. I always wonder what could have been and scarier yet..what's to be in his future. It's heartbreaking...no friends, no social life unless I arrange the meetings which are few and far between.

What fears do you face as you raise your child?

I fear that he will never reach his full potential. I worry about his life after I am gone...I worry about someone taking advantage of him. I know that there is no one who will care for him and love like I do.

What do you wish other moms knew about what you go through?

I wish Moms of typical children would include our Special Needs children..they really are wonderful people who just want to be accepted...like everyone else.

Do you have other autism mommies who have inspired you?

Lots of them...I don't know what I would do without them... truly! I can't imagine being on this journey by myself. They are the most selfless people I am blessed to know.
