Who in your life has been affected by autism and how?

Our son, Daniel, has autism. He is now 20 years old. He is on the lower functioning end, but is still achieving everyday.  

Where is your loved one on the spectrum?

Our biggest challenge is to come. We need to get him settled in a day program that will work for him.  He has one more year in the school system, then that's it.  We also have future plans for him to settle into a group home, but that, too, will be very difficult.  There just aren't enough homes/services out there to access.  

What do you wish people would understand about autism?

All I want is for him to be accepted and loved, and given a chance to have a life, tailored to his needs.
