The Right Diet for People with Muscular Dystrophy

Be aware of fiber intake and drink enough water

  • It's important to keep an eye on patient's fiber intake. The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics suggests that women should get at least 25 grams, especially if they are not more than 50 years old. On the other hand, for men, it is recommended to get 38 grams.  
  • Always go green. Though this is one of the most notable health advice for DMD patients. It’s maddening that only a few realize the essence of green foods can offer. Green leafy vegetables yield unparalleled nutrition to the body.
  • Drink enough water every day. It is very important for muscular dystrophy patients keep their body hydrated at all times. They should drink at least 8 glasses of water every day.
