The Right Diet for People with Muscular Dystrophy

What else should be kept in mind?

Aside from starchy foods and high in sodium edibles, there are more things to bear in mind:

  • Patients should avoid missing on supplements and vitamins. Daily supplement and calcium intake are crucial for the patient’s condition. This must be based accordingly on the actual intake. To start with, gather information on where, how, and when to take these supplements. It is best to consult the doctor to know whether supplements are needed or not. Keep in mind that the body can’t have too much calcium; thus, it’s significant to collaborate with a physician to know the best plan that perfectly suits the patient's body.
  • More importantly, the University of Maryland Medical Center says that individuals with DMD shouldn’t eat refined foods like pasta and white bread. Also, they must avoid stimulants and coffee. When they experience food allergies, they should keep away from foods that have preservatives and additives.
  • Say farewell to sugar. Sugar is also another reason why DMD symptoms aggravate. For this reason, a person with muscular dystrophy better removes sugar from their diet.
