Urologist

I am a board-certified reproductive urologist in private practice who has over 25 years of experience and has served on the University of North Carolina School of Medicine faculty where I was a Clinical Professor of Surgery/Urology and assistant chief of the urology division. I am committed to providing the highest caliber care for all of my patients. I have built a reputation for practicing evidence-based medicine with integrity. I have a long history of working locally and nationally with reproductive endocrinologists, gynecologists, urologists and primary care providers to provide couples comprehensive, state-of-the-art Male Factor Infertility diagnosis and treatment. I use the most innovative and effective procedures and surgical techniques. In fact, there are a number of practice areas like microsurgical vasectomy reversals, microsurgical varicocele repair, reconstructive surgery for obstructive azoospermia, surgical sperm harvesting and no-scalpel vasectomies, with which I have more experience than most urologists in North Carolina and the southeastern United states. I also provide comprehensive general urologic care for men and women of all ages.

I received my MD degree from the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York, followed by a residency in urology at the University of South Florida Hospitals in Tampa. I went on to complete a nationally recognized postdoctoral fellowship in Male Reproductive Medicine and Surgery at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston. I have served as President of the Durham-Orange County Medical Society and the Carolina Urological Association, and am a charter member of The Society for the Study of Male Reproduction with the American Urological Association. I attend the Annual Meetings of the American Society for Reproductive Medicine and the American Urological Association.

I enjoy putting people at ease and I am sensitive to my patient’s psychological well-being. My approach to patient care is to respect your time and past experiences and to put your welfare first at all times. In doing so, I act as a patient advocate and demand quality care, respect your dignity and minimize system complexities. Furthermore, I am committed to reviewing all of your options, not just the ones that I can provide. In recognition of my work, I have repeatedly been voted one of America’s Top Doctors®, The Best Doctor’s in America®, and Business North Carolina’s Premier Practitioners.

I grew up in a small steel town outside of Pittsburgh, PA. I wanted to be a doctor since middle school and was drawn to urology through my experiences with Mt. Sinai Hospital urologists. My Croatian heritage drove me to becoming a “foodie” along with my three children. I enjoy music, traveling, and trying to stay fit.

It doesn’t appear worrisome. Buy some over-the-counter antifungal/hydrocortisone cream mixture at your local pharmacy and give it a couple days, applying it once to twice a day and see what happens. If it doesn’t clear up within the week, then I would see a local urologist or a dermatologist.

STI transmission?

Unlikely to get HSV type 2, genital herpes. But you can get HSV type 1, oral herpes. 90% of adults have HSV type 1.

Oral sex HIV transmission?

Not likely HIV as your lesion appeared too fast. Could be herpes. Might be unrelated. See your family doctor.

Do I have herpes and what can I do?

It appears from the test results that you are positive for HSV type one. 90% of American adults are positive and this is just typical of having been exposed to a cold sore on the lips or a fever blister, etc., that’s nothing to worry about. Your HSV type two results were negative, so it appears at this time that you have not developed antibodies to this virus and so may not have been exposed to it yet. Meantime, you’re just extremely worried about it and that is very understandable, but at this point we can do about it… I really do help symptoms that would be a painful spot on your genitals and then it would turn into a painful water blister. We can always attend a local county health clinic or hook up with your primary care provider.

Skin injury mark that does not go away?

Yes, you seem to have some sort of chronic condition going on there - and my recommendation is to see your local doctor or your local urologist as you may have some sort of dermatitis or you may have diabetes undiagnosed or uncontrolled.

Unable to have ejaculation?

Your diabetes - controlled or not - combined with your age has caused your situation of “loss of seminal emission fluid." There is really no way that can be restored.

Swollen testicle?

You should see your PCP or urologist for exam and scrotal ultrasound.

Do I have a bladder infection?

Urinary track infections in both men and women are generally associated with burning on urination - discomfort and urgency before you get to the bathroom and after you finish voiding READ MORE
Urinary track infections in both men and women are generally associated with burning on urination - discomfort and urgency before you get to the bathroom and after you finish voiding - as well as intermittent urgency and frequency throughout. Sometimes you might see blood in your urine and you also could experience fever.

Possible STI?

Your sex partner could have an infection, yes, and you might not have the symptoms and could test negative, but to play it safe, I would take equal treatment.

Urination question?

Post-void dribbling is pretty common in your age group, but just to play it safe that there isn’t more going on inside I would recommend you see your local urologist.

Masturbation question?

If you masturbate more than once or twice in 24 hours. You cannot expect any fluid to come out, it takes time to recover.

What causes bumps on your penis?

Physical irritation from sex or masturbation and sometimes rubbing against new clothing or different soaps.

I have a foreskin issue?

If you can’t comfortably retract your foreskin, don’t force it. You need to see a urologist soon.

Narrowing semi erect penis?

You have developed some scar tissue - Peyronies or not. You should see a urologist. No emergency though.

Foreskin/glans red from phimosis?

It doesn’t really look that bad, but if you are uncircumcised, that redness and irritation is either just simply redness and irritation, or it could be a little fungal infection. READ MORE
It doesn’t really look that bad, but if you are uncircumcised, that redness and irritation is either just simply redness and irritation, or it could be a little fungal infection. I would just start with some simple over-the-counter anti-fungal cream and if it doesn’t improve in a week, I would see a local urologist.

Discharge from penis?

Statistically speaking, it was probably just a little urethral secretion discharge either from some erotic thoughts, possibly a recent bowel movement, or not having an ejaculation READ MORE

Penis pump?

Can’t tell from photo. Recommend seeing your local urologist.

Possible erectile disfunction?

Yes. Some ED here. See your local urologist please. No emergency though.

You are actually quite young and very unlikely to have scar tissue - which would then lead to the disorder/diagnosis of Peyronies disease of the penis - which is a scar that causes crookedness when the penis is rigid. You more likely just have disproportionate corporal body growth - in the penis, as you are going through adolescence, corporal body tubes in your
penis are just growing at different rates - and therefore your penis has a curve one way or another. If you have more curiosities, I’d recommend you see your local urologist.

Is this medicine safe to use on my penis?

Sounds okay, yes. But make sure that you seek consultation with a urologist, not just a primary care physician please.
