Is Dementia Linked to Abnormal Magnesium?
The study done by Erasmus University Medical Center
The participants in the study were tested for every form of dementia known to exist. These included Parkinson’s disease dementia, Alzheimer’s disease, and vascular dementia. The mean of the participants of the study was 65 years, and 75 percent of them were female. The tests were carried out by analyzing the serum magnesium amounts in the blood samples collected at baseline. The baseline had an interval of ten years, lasting from 1997 to 2008.
The blood samples from the baseline were from three different study cohorts in Rotterdam. The patients that participated in the tests were followed up closely until the first day of January 2015 to check for incidents dementia. They used the DSM-III-R criteria to check for the incident dementia during the follow-up.
