“One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest” Will Always be Tied to Alzheimer’s
Reverend Hummel's challenges
Although her prayer was answered that day, she has more difficulty these days. But, she does have some guts, even with her Alzheimer's diagnosis as this disease also caused the death of her mother. The symptoms, such as losing her memory and forgetting, took a toll on her, so she had to stop being a pastor full time and now acts as a substitute for other churches
She is 63 years old with 2 children and 1 grandchild, who is on the way. She noticed that she slowed down in giving sermons. When she was growing up in central New Jersey, she would try to hide her condition. Then, the inevitable of knowing her condition put her faith to the test.
She shared a time when someone at church told her that God is preparing something for her. She sarcastically answered the woman because she was not ready to accept her condition. In the end, she was able to accept it. Now, she is part of the advisory council of the Health and Human Services Department of the U.S. for the Alzheimer’s Association. She also sings in a band named Country Magic, which is recognized by the Country Music Hall of Fame in New York.
