Essential Tidbits Physicians Want Patients to Know About Alzheimer's

Young people can suffer from Alzheimer's too

Though less frequent, younger individuals may also suffer from a rare early-onset variant of Alzheimer’s, which is characterized by the same symptoms, but appearing at a much earlier age; somewhere around 30 to 40 years of age, as opposed to regular Alzheimer’s, which usually manifests late into the person’s life. According to Dr. Marc Leavy, of the Mercy Personal Physicians in Lutherville, around 200,000 individuals are suffering from this rare variant of Alzheimer’s, and its diagnosis is a tragedy that the family must learn to accept and adapt to accordingly. The doctor also states that, due to its hereditary nature, those who have one or more individuals that suffer from Alzheimer’s in their family are more likely to suffer from it themselves, so it’s important that they regularly check up with their physician.
