Can eye drops cause eye damage?

I use eye drops for red eyes. Can eye drops cause eye damage?

Yes, if it's not meant for you.
The answer would depend on the type of drop. Some over the counter drops are better than others for sure. Please check with your optometrist before adding eye drops to your routine.

Eyedrops can cause eye damage and in rare cases death. There were eyedrops that got contaminated at a manufacturing  plant overseas . This caused severe eye infections . These drops were pulled off the counter. The only safe eyedrops for getting the red out is Lumify it is over the counter and can be used twice a day. Also nonpreserved tears from Alcon or allergan like systane or refresh or theratears or genteel are relatively safe.  Sent from the all new AOL app for iOS
Unfortunately yes. The use of any medication can have some unwanted effects, not only on the eyes, but also the body. Eye drops that take the red out can lead to an addiction where the eyes will not stay clear without them, and there are reports in the literature of them causing glaucoma as well. So, yes, damage can occur. The best thing to do is go to an eye doctor to determine the cause of the redness, and have it be treated appropriately.
hopefully not
Depends on the diagnosis. A complete ophthalmologic exam should be performed.
